02 Explain why a consumer might 'want' a branded pair of trainers but only 'need' a basic pair of shoes.
Hint: KN: A want is for status/style > APP: Nike trainers vs unbranded shoes > AN: Creates a desirable brand image.

Sample Answer
[KN] Basic pair of shoes fulfils the necessity of having shoes to walk daily whereas branded pair of shoes adds more comfort in daily life.
[APP] For example a non-branded shoes would be cheaper in price but the branded ones like Nike would be offered at higher prices due to its added value (added features).
[AN] Businesses, offer necessities like "basic shoes" at competitive prices to attract the consumers leading to increased consumer base & market share leading to economies of scale.
Whereas added value makes businesses charge higher prices for the branded ones making them loyal to the brand leading towards more profits which could be invested in offering newer designs.

[KN] A want is based on status or style, while a need is based on basic use.
[AAP] For example, a consumer might want Nike trainers for fashion and brand image, but only needs an unbranded pair of shoes to protect their feet.
[AN]This shows how wants create prestige, differentiation, and social appeal. As a result, branded products allow firms like Nike to charge higher prices, while basic shoes only meet functional needs.

[KN] A customer might want branded trainers because they provide style, status, and image, while a basic pair of shoes only meets the need of covering and protecting the feet.
[AAP] For example, someone may buy Nike or Adidas trainers not just for comfort, but to look fashionable and show their social status.
[AN+] This makes the customer feel more confident, allows them to stand out in society, and gives them personal satisfaction beyond the basic need of footwear.

(KN)In order to boost social status, through wearing shoes of well know and premium brands.
(APP)For instance, Nike the most popular shoe producer in the world is known for having unique designs of shoes, which allows the business to charge a higher price, despite having the same function and quality as any other cheaper alternative. This premium price tag then entices people who are socially conscious to buy the shows despite premium price tag, leading to an increase in consumer base, increasing sales revenue, in turn allowing the business to expand and launch new designs consistently, developing a good brand image.
(AN+)This in the long-term will lead to the business being able to remain relevant, thus boosting competitivity.

Knowledge point: A need is essential, while a want is extra but still influences buying decisions.
Application: A consumer needs a basic pair of shoes for daily use but may want branded trainers for style or status.
Analysis: This shows that businesses can attract customers by offering products that satisfy both basic needs and additional wants.
Further analysis: By selling branded trainers, businesses can charge higher prices, make more profit, build customer loyalty, and gain an edge over competitors.

[KN]A need is a basic requirement, such as a simple pair of shoes to protect the feet, while a want is something desirable but non-essential, such as branded trainers like Nike or Adidas.
[APP]A business selling basic shoes meets a need, so demand will come from consumers who simply require affordable footwear. However, a business selling branded trainers is targeting wants, as consumers may buy them for style, comfort, or social status rather than necessity.
[AN]This means branded trainer companies can charge premium prices and earn higher profits by creating brand loyalty, but they also face more competition and must spend heavily on marketing to maintain demand. Basic shoe businesses, however, benefit from steady but lower-margin sales since they are satisfying essential needs.

[KN] A need is a basic requirement such as normal trainers to and protect feet while a want is a item that provides extra satisfaction
[APP] For example a customer needs basic pair of trainers to cover their feet but would want a branded pair of trainers such as Addidas for fashion and style
[AN] As a result brands like Addidas can charge additional prices as they know about the demand of people and there will be less cost of advertisement which will result in better quality of the trainers hence improving the brand image.

(KN) Shoes are generally need to protect your feet and help you walk comfortably but wanting branded pair could be for status
(APP) like Adidas trainer’s could be for fashion or status.
(AN)This means that while needs create constant demand, wants depend on consumer income and preferences, making their demand less stable, business like addidas does fulfill the basic needs for shoes but also makes them fashionable for which they charge a premium price, increasing there revenue per product.

[KN] People may buy branded trainers due to their brand image and status, while basic shoes only serve the purpose of protecting the feet.
[APP]For example people buy converse trainers due to their premium branding and status, while basic trainers is only essential for comfort of feet.
[AN]Good quality and branding of the shoes will enable a business to charge high prices from it's customers increasing profit margins which can then be reinvested in the business to improve it.

[KN]They may want a branded pair for show/style whereas they may need a basic pair for comfort and reliability.
[APP]For example brands like Nike/Adidas are known because of their style and brandimage which increases desire for people to buy those shoes whereas a basic pair of trainers focus more on comfort as compared to those brands making it sustainable/cheaper for customers to buy and they are priced relatively lower than high end brands making them affordable as well.
[AN]Therefore, branded pair of shoes can help to increase self esteem of consumers and will make them feel proud leading towards a rise in loyalty and a larger consumer base despite the high price. On the other hand basic shoes provide comfort making them better for long term usage, help to promote foot health/physical activity and enhance stability of the user.
